Why I dislike(d) belts

I dislike belts. There. I said it. Belts have been for me those weird accessories that you keep in the back of your closet for emergency reasons, and use them only when you have a pair of amazing pants that are, unfortunately, a bit too large in the waist. This would have been the only exception where I would think about wearing this contraption, that is, until a week ago.

Don’t get me wrong, belts are awesome. They keep your pants on and there are a lot of people who look absolutely gorgeous wearing them- it’s just that I am not one of those people. Any pair of pants worn with a belt weirdly scrunches up at the top and looks downright awful on me, and it takes me about 10 minutes to pull the belt through the belt loops and find the most appropriate hole. I do believe that the idea of a “perfect belt hole” is a myth because there are always only two options for me: “so tight I cannot breathe” and “so loose that if I bend down, my pants will fall off”.

Unfortunately for me, black belts with huge silver buckles have been all over Instagram lately, and as I am crazy for that grunge-ish look, I took a leap of faith and got myself one. Do I like it? Absolutely. Does it make me want to wear more belts from now on? No way. If you look closely, I am not even wearing it properly, the belt loops on all my jeans are way too small for the huge buckles and my closet is 80% skinny jeans anyway.

This experience was truly enlightening, I must say, and it helped me learn two important things:

1.Never be afraid of trying something new, you may end up loving it (this one’s a deep one);

2.Not all belts look that bad;

Nu îmi plac curelele. Gata.

Nup. No way.

1.Să nu îți fie frică să încerci ceva nou, s-ar putea să îți placă (asta așa, mai deep);

2.Nu toate curelele arată chiar așa nașpa;

  1. For a person who dislikes belts, you wore this look like a real badass. Totally love it! Great post!

  2. Lol loving the humorous tone of this post babe! You totally rocked the belt in this outfit and I wouldn’t have even noticed that it wasn’t “worn properly” because it looks like it works really well! I’m the opposite in that I love belts but have a hard time finding ones that fit well at the waist.
